REALITY

This months theme is about to get all philosophical, as we debate he subjectiveness of reality in the studio, armed with research from Darren and some mumblings and sound bites from the general public. This show also touches far more on the issues around homelessness than previous shows. However you know us well by now so do not expect a politically correct show, whinging or too many platitudes

CROSS TALK FULL INTERVIEW

The next episode of in our series goes on-line on Friday the 25th November. The theme for this show is REALITY and we are focussing this show more on the issues that impact upon homeless people and homeless and ex-homeless people themselves.

We were very fortunate for this months Cross Talk feature to be able to talk to Jeremy Swain the CEO of Thamesreach & Charles Fraser the CEO of St Mungos.

So before the fully edited version of the interview goes out we would like to offer you all the chance to hear the interview in it's entire format.

ANARCHY

This month we explore the theme of Anarchy, often misinterpreted and therefore almost always misunderstood. Speaking to fantastic guests who without exception have the balls to walk it like they talk it. As usual we have lots of unsigned music, some muppet porn and a show that is not for the easily offended. For full listing see the What's On Page!

SHOW 3 YEARNING

Do we really yearn for our hearts desires? Or is this an emotion we invoke when things are a little bit tough, we are feeling a little bit wet and we cannot really be bothered to get off our backsides.

Happiness & Fetishes with Ben

I was not expecting to be interviewing for the fetish Cross Talk section that had long been bagged another member of the crew but unfortunately they were unable to finish the piece. Luckily I am a well know and totally unashamed pervert and brought in a good friend who I knew liked a bit of rubber. You will here we had great fun recording the interview and I hope it cracks a few smiles your side of the mic. The fetish interview goes out as part of the happiness show on Monday 29th Sept. For my part now I am cleaning out my tent to get ready to interview some very cool alternative lifestyle types in Wales at the Watusi festival next weekend.

The Nelson Mandela Children's Fund - With Richard

The Nelson Mandela Children’s Fund aims to take the top students in schools and train them to a high standard so that they put the skills to use to better the lives of children. As Marion explains this Bethany who takes part in the programme is joining us.

The questions I ask and the responses given provoke the thought that at the risk of sounding like a cliché Nelson Mandela believes that the children are the future and he does care a lot about giving children the best start.

I ask Bethany how she came to be involved and she revealed that it all started when they came to her school and gave a talk. She then became intrigued and wanted to get involved. Se told me that on a trip to South Africa she went to volunteer tat a school and was in charge of a class. That experience was what made her want to do this. Local communities can even get involved with fundraising too in the country as well as in South Africa.

I was a little nervous before the interview but was put at ease with the casual nature of the whole thing. I was really impressed with Bethany who was only 16; someone who is young and willing to help in whatever way she could to help towards a bigger picture. I hope that this work continues to go from strength to strength and attracts a lot more people to help such a good cause.

During the interview I actually forgot I was interviewing Marion and I felt like I was there to sign up to the programme luckily the response of the recorder kicked me back into conducting an interview. This was my first roving report for Locke on Radio and I really enjoyed it.

Richards Interview will feature on Episode 3 – YEARNING ON 25TH SEPT.

HAPPINESS & WELL BEING - WITH BEN

"Thats right, in the quest for more information and hopefully some snappy quotes, I, Ben Goddard headed off to the Lemos & Crane RISE conference on "Happiness and Wellbeing". I was told there would be food and coffee...

Essentially what the conference boiled down to was Mental Health Care Professionals from various circles giving their opinion and findings on happiness, then discussing new and innovative ways to combat depression and other mental illnesses. As I remember that day at the moment it seems quite strange. The reason being this, when I was attending they all seemed marvellous ideas of ways to help. However, recently I have been encountering my own reccurrent problems with depression and despite hearing all these marvellous ideas, I couldnt possibly tell you what they were. Though I do remember one being essentially, a jolly good walk in the countryside, which yes would be great, though honestly right now, I would prefer Valium I think.

I managed to talk to some fascinating people though, who have dragged themselves up and out of black dog country and are doing well. I don't mean "functioning members of society", as society doesn't give a flying balls about me generally and the feeling is largely mutual, I mean well for themselves. They are an inspiration to me at the moment and encourage me not to dwell (as difficult as that is with uncontrollable thought patterns ).

I don't think David Cameron was listening, to find out if people were happy. Though I imagine you would have to shout pretty fucking loud for him to hear. As apparently half a million people booing as they proceeded past his front door was insufficient (march against the cuts 2011).

I did manage to have a good chat with the lovely John Hegley the poet whilst I was there. I say "chat", he sweetly agreed to a short interview actually, but can we pretend that the two of us are super best friends now ? Either way you can hear more about this on the rado show which I am now metaphorically pointing to.

As it goes, writing this was quite therapeutic. Maybe next year I'll suggest writing reviews of RISE as a treatment for depression...."

This roving report forms part of the August show on the theme of HAPPINESS.

Interviewing Heavy Load - with Jonny

After a pleasant train journey, a walk along the front and a spot of lunch I met with Heavy Load in The Levellers studio in a quiet little back street in Brighton. Having played on the same bill as this band a couple of times in the last 12 months I can safely agree with The Sunday Times that they are "probabaly the most important punk band playing in the UK today"

We arrived to find the guys putting final touches to their new album to which Camden Calling member Dekay was contributing on a reworked cover of the Ting Tings hit That's Not My Name. The song is being released to highlight and promote awareness of hate crime towards individuals with learning disabilities.

The guys were as always in bloody high spirits and had plenty to say on the subject of happiness. Simon in particular was very happy with my resemblance to Bruce Forsyth.

Michael the founder of the Stay Up Late Campaign gave us an interesting and poignant insight into the problems faced by individuals who rely on carer support to conduct decent evening social lives.

The interview is going to be featured on show 2 HAPPINESS where you can find out more about how the guys are torch bearers for disability rights, and why they really do need officials from Brighton & Hove council writing lyrics about predjudice for them.

The Story So Far

LOCKED ON RADIO has been in pre production for 10 weeks now bringing together a core team of nine homeless and ex-homeless people, passionate about music, passionate about the issues that impact our lives and passionate about wanting to make an impact in the world.

The front page of this blog will be updated with news about the project and blog entries from the people behind this show as well as being a place to listen to the shows. We want this blog to be a platform for you to get involved and help us shape the future of LOCKED ON RADIO.

My name is Alex and I am the Project Director of Camden Calling an organisation that is run as an arts collective with homeless & vulnerable people. LOCKED ON RADIO is a project we have been excited about as a team for some time now.

As well as hearing from me you will also here from Matt the engineer at Endell St Studios as he moves the show forward from the pre production to the production phase.
